The Relationship
In today’s fast-paced telecom world, flexible IT operations while maintaining agility, security, and innovation is a not-so-secret formula to success. Our story started in 2012 when Nion partnered with Telenor by embedding our IT Consultants into their IT department. It was clear from the beginning that this wasn’t a one-off project, but had the ingredients fir a long-term partnership.
Our Consultants
On average, we’ve had around 30 consultants working for Telenor at any given time during the last 7 years. Together, we’ve advanced initiatives in three main areas: (1) Adopt Agile methods of doing business throughout the company structure, (2) Added developer capacity to Telenor’s team to rebuild a not-fit-for-the-future system with a modern micro-service-based architecture, and (3) Put together a Mobile Team, for mobile Application maintenance and development . We contributed to defining the initial setup for development processes and worked side by side with Telenor to deliver multiple agile teams in action.
Our Work
The new platform supports different channels allowing customers, customer support agents, internal and external sales agents to interact. The platform has a wide scope of capabilities, which cover everything from Sales and Marketing, through Orders, Logistics, Billing, Customer Care, Identity, etc., to Analysis. The base architecture enables an ever-growing eco-system of services, making it ready for expansion of the set of capabilities. Each of our teams is responsible for a domain enabling multiple capabilities which includes development, configuration, deployment, testing, and monitoring.
A crucial part of this work is ensuring the privacy and security of customer data. Especially in today’s world where GDPR and privacy laws are a requirement, Telenor makes it a priority to be strict about consent, provide options to opt out from marketing recommendations, ensure identity protection, and uphold the right to be forgotten. Beyond compliance, together we apply privacy by design principles and develop solutions in a secure way, ensuring that data protection is built in from the start and that systems are resilient against potential threat actors.
Other than the extensive work described above, our consultants are a part of the Mobile App team at Telenor. Their work consists of developing, testing, and release of the end user app that helps users control the services they use. We’ve put together a super-star team of mobile experts who have already delivered numerous projects together. Their close collaboration and proven track record mean bringing speed, quality, and creativity to the app’s development.
All about the Teamwork
When talking about this partnership, team members have spoken with great satisfaction about our consultants – both in terms of skill and team atmosphere. A maturity in attitude, independent, pleasant to work with, not only in terms of seniority, but also in the high level of teamwork. Agile teams that are always solution and result focused when running into incidents, engaged in team discussions, actively suggesting ideas for improvement. What is especially important to the team’s success is that in all past scenarios, junior developers have received proper onboarding and support to feel safe contributing to the team – and this creates the proper atmosphere to promote growth. There is really no strict line between responsibilities and team members helping each other out – there is teamwork in everything.
